The Alpro Foundation is an independent non-profit organisation, which was founded in 1996

The objective of the foundation is:

  • to support and promote scientific knowledge, research and education in the field of nutrition and health with a focus on plant-based nutrition and a special interest in soya.

  • to communicate the importance of ‘plant based eating’  and to change people’s  eating habits in the longer term so that diets are both healthy and sustainable.

The foundation aims to help increase the awareness and knowledge about the impact of ‘plant based nutrition on human health’ amongst health professionals, academia, students and the general public. It establishes numerous activities to help achieve these objectives e.g. organising conferences, dissemination of an educational newsletter, awards for MSc students, research grants for universities, and most recently educational resources for schools.

The Alpro Foundation award for masters is given in recognition of an outstanding thesis relating to the impact of plant based nutrition (including bioactive compounds) on human health, the environment or the economy.

The Alpro Foundation is working with teachers to increase awareness and understanding of the importance of plant-based eating.
The Alpro Foundation ‘Design Brief 2020’ will provide teachers with an exciting Food Technology project to set their students – ‘to design a meal for the year 2020’. It aims to encourage and support young people in building the knowledge, skills and values to ensure they understand the benefits of a plant based diet for sustainable health and planet now and for future generations to come.
